About Alagar Kovil (Kallazhagar Temple)

One of the 108 Divya Desams, situated at the base of the Alagar Hills 21 km from Madurai. Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Kallazhagar (the Beautiful Thief) and is associated with the legend of Meenakshi's wedding — he was on his way to Madurai but stopped here. The Chithirai festival when the deity is taken in procession to the Vaigai river attracts lakhs of devotees.
