Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about planning a South India temple yatra with Vihar Tours.

Planning & Booking

Does Vihar Tours offer fixed online booking packages?

No. Vihar Tours is an inquiry-led spiritual tourism portal. The website helps you explore temple circuits, use the itinerary builder, and discover the right route. Final pricing, hotel bookings, and vehicle arrangements are confirmed manually via WhatsApp based on your specific travel dates, group size, and hotel preference.

How do I start planning my yatra?

The easiest way is to use the Itinerary Builder on our website. Choose your spiritual purpose, starting city, number of days, travel style, and group composition. The builder generates a day-wise route that you can then bring to our team on WhatsApp for finalisation.

How long does it take to get a confirmed quote?

Typically within 4-8 hours on WhatsApp during business hours (9 AM to 8 PM IST). For complex circuits with multiple hotels and special darshan requirements, it may take up to 24 hours.

Can I customise a circuit to include or exclude specific temples?

Yes, absolutely. All our circuits are starting points, not fixed packages. You can add temples, remove them, extend duration, change starting city, or combine multiple circuits. Just let us know your preferences on WhatsApp.

Do you offer group discounts?

For groups of 10 or more, our team works out a custom quotation that typically offers better rates on vehicle, accommodation, and coordination. Contact us on WhatsApp to discuss group requirements.

Temple Darshan

Do I need to book darshan tickets in advance?

For Tirupati, online ticket booking (₹300 Special Entry Darshan) is strongly recommended at least 30-60 days in advance via the official TTD website. For most other temples, advance booking is not required — you can queue on arrival. Our team advises you on temple-specific requirements during planning.

What is the dress code for South India temples?

Men are typically required to wear a dhoti (veshti) or traditional kurta-pyjama. Women should wear a saree, salwar kameez with dupatta, or pavadai. Many temples do not allow jeans, shorts, sleeveless tops, or western wear. Temple-specific dress code details are included in our darshan guide pages.

Are non-Hindu visitors allowed in all temples?

No. Several temples in South India — especially in Kerala and some in Tamil Nadu — restrict entry to Hindus only. Tirupati, Guruvayur, Padmanabhaswamy, and several others require you to declare your faith at the entrance. Our temple guides include entry restrictions clearly.

What are the best darshan timings to avoid crowds?

Early morning (5 AM to 8 AM) and weekday afternoons (12 PM to 3 PM) typically have shorter queues at most South India temples. Weekends, festivals, and amavasya (new moon) or pournami (full moon) days see peak crowds. Our planning always accounts for this.

Senior Citizens & Families

Can senior citizens do these temple tours comfortably?

Yes. Vihar Tours specialises in senior-friendly yatra planning. We account for walking distance, step count, rest stops, early darshan timings, comfortable vehicle options, proximity of stay to temples, food availability, and parking. Our temple guide pages have a senior suitability rating for each temple.

Is wheelchair access available at South India temples?

Some major temples offer wheelchair assistance — Tirupati, Guruvayur, and Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai have good accessibility. However, many older and smaller temples have uneven stone paths and stairs. We mark accessibility clearly in our temple guides and suggest alternatives where needed.

Can I travel with young children on a temple circuit?

Yes. We recommend circuits with comfortable travel distances and child-friendly stays for families with young children. We adjust the daily distance and suggest circuits where children can participate meaningfully without excessive walking or waiting.

What vehicle is recommended for senior citizen tours?

For 3-6 seniors, an Innova Crysta (AC, comfortable, reliable) is the preferred choice. For larger groups (7-12), a Tempo Traveller is recommended. For 2 seniors, a sedan (Etios or Dzire) works well. All vehicles are private hire with a dedicated driver.

Costs & Travel Logistics

What is approximately included in the tour cost?

Typical inclusions depend on your package: vehicle (private hire, air-conditioned), accommodation (hotel as per your category preference), breakfast, and guide coordination. Excludes: darshan tickets, airfare/train fare to starting city, personal expenses, and meals not mentioned. Exact inclusions are quoted per itinerary.

Which states are covered by Vihar Tours?

Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Karnataka are our primary coverage areas. We specialise in South India pilgrimage routes and do not currently cover North India or Maharashtra (Pandharpur, Nashik) circuits.

What are the best months to visit South India for pilgrimage?

October to February is the ideal season — cooler weather, fewer rains, comfortable temple visits. March to May is hot (30-38°C) but manageable with early morning darshan scheduling. June to September is monsoon season — some circuits are affected by heavy rains, particularly in Kerala and coastal Tamil Nadu.

Do you arrange accommodation too?

Yes. Based on your hotel category preference (Budget, Standard, Comfort, or Premium), our team recommends and books stays near key temples. We prioritise hotels within 10-20 minutes of temple entry for senior-friendly trips.

Itinerary Builder

How does the Itinerary Builder work?

The builder takes your inputs — spiritual purpose (e.g., Navagraha remedy, Murugan devotion), starting city, number of days, travel style (relaxed or standard), and group composition — and matches them to our curated circuit database. It returns a day-by-day route plan with temple sequence, stay cities, and travel notes.

Is the builder output a confirmed booking?

No. The builder generates a suggested plan for your reference. You then share it with our team on WhatsApp to confirm availability, price, hotel options, and finalise dates. The builder is a planning tool, not a booking system.

Can I download the itinerary as a PDF?

Yes. After the builder generates your route, there is an option to download it as a PDF for easy reference or to share with family members who are joining the trip.

Still have questions?

Our team is available on WhatsApp to answer specific questions about your circuit, darshan requirements, group size, or travel dates.
