Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Kallazhagar (the Beautiful Thief) and is associated with the legend of Meenakshi's wedding — he was on his way to Madurai but stopped here. The Chithirai festival when the deity is taken in procession to the Vaigai river attracts lakhs of devotees.
