About Sri Thayumanavar Temple (Trichy Rock Fort)

Perched atop the 83-metre Trichy Rock Fort, this Paadal Petra Sthalams has one of the most dramatic settings of any temple in India. Shiva is worshipped as Thayumanavar (he who became the mother) after appearing as a midwife to a devotee's pregnant wife. The climb up 437 steps through rock-cut passages passes through Ganesha and Uchchi Pillayar shrines.
