About Pillayarpatti Karpaga Vinayagar Temple

A 1600-year-old rock-cut cave temple enshrining a 6-foot Ganesha carved from a single rock. The idol has no separate trunk — the trunk shape is formed naturally within the rock. This ancient Brahmi inscription-bearing cave is one of the oldest Ganesha temples in India and is one of the major wish-fulfilling (karpaga — wish-giving tree) Vinayagar shrines in Tamil Nadu.
