About Kumbeswarar Temple
The principal Shiva temple of Kumbakonam, the city of temples. Legend says Shiva shot an arrow here to break the pot (kumbam) of nectar that had floated down from the cosmic flood. The Mahamaham festival in the sacred tank occurs every 12 years.
